HMY Yachts

HMY Yachts is a yacht brokerage and new-boat dealer founded in Fort Lauderdale in 1979. The family-owned firm lists its headquarters in Fort Lauderdale, with its flagship office at Bahia Mar, and runs a network of 15 sales offices that stretches from Ocean Reef in the Florida Keys to Charleston, South Carolina, and Newport, Rhode Island.

Thirteen of those offices are in Florida, concentrated along the southeast coast. Besides Bahia Mar, HMY has offices at Harbour Towne Marina in Dania Beach, Miami Beach Marina, Soverel Harbour Marina in Palm Beach Gardens, Palm Harbor Marina in West Palm Beach, Harbour Point Marina and an outboard boating center in North Palm Beach, three locations in Stuart, Pirate’s Cove in Port Salerno, Ocean Reef and Jacksonville.

The firm’s core business is brokerage, buying and selling pre-owned yachts and handling trade-ins, backed by more than 70 sales professionals. As a new-boat dealer it represents Viking and Princess along with Valhalla Boatworks, Eclipse, Two Oceans, Nimbus, MJM and Steeler, a mix that runs from center-console and sportfishing boats to motor yachts. HMY also arranges yacht charters and operates four service hubs alongside its sales offices.

Its clients range from buyers of outboard-powered center consoles to owners of large sportfishing yachts and motor yachts, and its offices outside Florida give it a presence in the Carolinas and New England as well as at home.

The company was co-founded on November 1, 1979, by Steve Moynihan, who entered the marine industry in 1975 at a yacht multiple-listing firm and earned his brokerage license at 21. HMY began in a floating office in Fort Lauderdale. Moynihan later became sole owner, and he and his wife, Faith, continue to own the business, which describes many of its brokers as coming from multi-generation marine families.
